Give It All Away: The Power of Sharing Your Story

Give It All Away: The Power of Sharing Your Story

Years ago, when I first moved to Dallas, I didn’t have a clear plan—just a belief that I’d make something happen. My backup plan? Ensure Plan A worked. Every morning, I’d search Craigslist’s free section for books, pick them up, and sell them to Half Price Books for a few dollars—just enough to keep my dreams alive.

Half Price Books became a special place in my story—a symbol of hustle and resilience. Recently, I visited the store again after years away. On a whim, I asked if they had any books by me. To my surprise, they had two: The Idea of Excellence and Opportunity Engineer.

I was appalled. Someone sold my books? At first, it hurt my pride. How could someone give away something so personal, something I poured my heart into? But then it hit me: They didn’t discard my work—they passed it on for someone else to learn and grow.

The Gift of Your Story

We all have something valuable to pass on—our stories, lessons, and lived experiences. It doesn’t require fame or a published book. Your struggles, your perseverance, and your triumphs are treasures meant to be shared.

Think about the challenges you’ve faced and conquered—the heartbreaks, setbacks, and obstacles you’ve overcome. Many people around you have no idea what you’ve battled. If they did, they’d see how resilient you truly are.

Why You Must Share

Too often, we hide our struggles out of shame or fear of judgment. But what if sharing your past could change someone’s future? What if your story could be the light someone needs to push through their darkest moments?

You don’t need a stage or a bestseller. Sometimes, it’s as simple as a social media post saying:

“To anyone feeling defeated—I’ve been there. It hurts, but you can make it through. Keep going.”

Trust me, someone will read it and think, I’m not alone.

Passing It Forward

I’ve spent much of my career writing books, giving talks, and sharing my experiences—not because I enjoy reliving tough times, but because I believe in passing on lessons. I don’t want anyone to feel the isolation I once felt.

Your trials are a goldmine for someone else’s growth. They’re stories of survival, strength, and resilience. And they’re meant to be shared.

What Will You Give Away?

You don’t have to give away millions or build a global charity. But you can share what matters—your wisdom, your compassion, your story. Be the guide someone needs by simply being real about what you’ve been through.

Because when we give it all away—our lessons, our love, our support—we create a world where resilience and hope multiply. And in the end, isn’t that what life is truly about?
