Do What’s Miserable Until It’s Not

Do What’s Miserable Until It’s Not

I spent this past weekend watching WrestleMania—the Super Bowl of wrestling. The production, the energy, the performers flying off turnbuckles—it’s entertainment at its finest. But what struck me wasn’t the spectacle. It was the fact that so many of those performers, Roman Reigns included, are older than me… and in insane shape. How?

I looked up Roman Reigns’ workout and diet routine, and in an interview, he dropped a line that punched me harder than any steel chair could:

“You just do what’s miserable until it’s not miserable anymore.”

And that, my friends, is the blueprint.

No Secret Sauce—Just Consistency

We’ve all heard it. We’ve all hoped it wasn’t true. But it is.

There’s no secret formula to success. No magical shortcut. No VIP invite to the next level of life.

What there is? Relentless repetition. Boring, unsexy, consistent effort.

Chicken and rice. Hard conversations. Skipped happy hours. Writing every day when no one’s reading. Saving money when no one sees. It’s boring. And yet, it's everything.

Do You Want the Goal, or the Glamour?

Here’s the question we all need to answer honestly:

Do I want the goal… or do I want it to look like I’m chasing the goal?

We live in a highlight-reel world where everyone wants their journey to look good. But you don’t get six-pack abs from doing cool workouts—you get them from doing the same basic thing every single day when no one’s watching.

If your goals are real, you won’t care about the optics. You’ll care about the outcome.

Wisdom from a Millionaire

Years ago, I asked a millionaire how to become a millionaire. He said:

“Do you know how to make a dollar profit? Good. Repeat that a million times.”

At the time, I was frustrated. I wanted secrets. Instead, I got truth. But that truth? It was everything. You don’t need flash. You need function.

The Real Habit Timeline

Forget the 21-day habit myth—it came from post-nose-job recovery, not neuroscience. Research shows it takes 66–68 days on average to form a habit. But here’s the reframe:

“In just two months, I can become the kind of person who does [insert habit] without thinking.”

That’s freedom. That’s power. That’s momentum.

Take Action Today

Here’s your mental checklist for this week:

  • Does your goal mean enough to suffer for it?

  • Can you embrace the boring part of the process?

  • Are you willing to be consistent for 66+ days—even when no one’s watching?

If yes, you’re already ahead. If no, it’s time to reset the intention.

This isn’t about pretending to be motivated. It’s about choosing to be consistent. Roman Reigns wasn’t born with abs or discipline. He just did what was miserable until it wasn’t.

So, what miserable thing are you willing to commit to this week—knowing that, one day, it won’t be miserable anymore?

Let’s go.
