Confidence Speaks Before You Do

Confidence Speaks Before You Do

They say the eyes are the gateway to the soul. I believe that.

Confidence isn’t about bravado, the loudest voice in the room, or some larger-than-life personality that dominates every space. True confidence? You see it in someone’s eyes. It’s that undeniable look of certainty—the unshakable belief that no matter the odds, they’re going to make it happen.

I saw that firsthand recently when I spoke at the University of North Texas. A student named Diana Rosas came up to me after my talk, and you could see it instantly—she had it. That energy, that focus, that look of someone who doesn’t just dream, but does. That’s someone I’d bet on.

A Clear Vision Creates a Certain Future

One thing Diana said stuck with me. She told me that when she was a freshman, she knew she wanted to work in PR for the World Cup. The second she found out the event was coming to Dallas, she locked in. She didn’t just hope she could be involved—she decided she would.

Fast forward, and now she’s interning at a prestigious PR firm, positioning herself exactly where she said she’d be. But here’s what impressed me the most—she wasn’t waiting for things to fall into place. She wasn’t hoping the right connections would appear out of thin air. She was creating her future with every step.

So many people operate with a “when I have this, then I’ll go for that” mindset. When I have the right connections. Whenthe timing is perfect. When the stars align. But the truth is, the world bends for those who move with certainty. When you decide exactly what you want, you set things in motion that others won’t even recognize until it’s already happening.

If you don’t believe that, think about the people in your life who are laser-focused. The ones who say, I’m going to have this career, this lifestyle, this success. And what happens? They get it. Not because they waited for opportunities, but because they eliminated any other option.

Confidence Takes Action

Diana’s confidence wasn’t just in her vision—it was in her ability to act when the moment presented itself.

She had been trying to connect with the head of PR for FC Dallas, sending emails, reaching out, but getting no response. Then one day, while working her retail job, the very woman she had been pursuing walked into her store.

Now, most people would freeze in that moment. They’d overthink it, second-guess themselves, let doubt creep in. What if she doesn’t remember my emails? What if she doesn’t care? What if I say the wrong thing?

But Diana? She walked right up, introduced herself, and invited her to speak to her organization. A month later, that same executive—someone she had once been chasing—was standing in front of her group, delivering a talk.

That’s confidence.

Not the kind that’s loud and showy. Not the kind that waits for permission. But the kind that sees an opportunity and moves—without hesitation.

Become a Resource

Here’s something we can all take into the rest of this year and beyond—confidence isn’t just about what you want, it’s about what you offer.

Diana wasn’t just working toward her own success—she was helping others along the way. I watched as other students came up to her for advice about interviews, career fairs, and professional growth. And she wasn’t just giving generic encouragement—she was giving real insights, because she had done the work.

She told me about her job at Coach, how she made it a point to study the products, understand the brand, and know everything about the culture. She didn’t just sell bags—she created an experience for customers. And the proof? Reviews from customers saying her knowledge made their experience better than shopping at high-end stores like Gucci.

That’s what it means to be a resource.

  • Know your craft better than anyone.
  • Be someone people turn to for answers.
  • Make it a habit to study—the people, the industry, the game.

If you’re involved in something, don’t just show up—OWN IT.

The Bottom Line

Confidence isn’t an accident. It’s built through vision, action, and being a resource.

  • Know exactly what you want.
  • Don’t wait for opportunities—create them.
  • Be so valuable that people seek you out.

If you can commit to that, you’re on track for a great life.

Go hunt.
