Clear the Clutter, Clear Your Mind

Clear the Clutter, Clear Your Mind

Have you ever felt stuck without knowing why? I hit that wall recently in my home office. I walked in, sat down, and something just felt... off. The energy wasn’t right. The space felt heavy, cluttered—not with stuff, but with stagnant energy. I realized it was time for a change.

I’ve said for years that you never clean a room by adding more to it—you clean by subtracting. The same principle applies to our lives and minds. Sometimes, it’s not about learning more, doing more, or acquiring more tools. Sometimes, it’s about letting go of what no longer serves us.

Step 1: Identify What’s Taking Up Space

A friend of mine, who’s borderline obsessive about organization, always says: “If you’re not using it, put it up.” That hit home for me. I looked around my office—boxes, old books, random files. I wasn’t using any of it, yet it was occupying my space and draining my focus.

This applies to life, too. Think about it: How many outdated thoughts, toxic relationships, or unproductive habits are cluttering your mental space? Ask yourself honestly: Do I really need this?

Step 2: Rearrange for New Perspectives

I used to have my desk facing a wall. Every day, I’d sit down and stare at it. One day, I thought, What if I just turned it around? I rotated my desk to face the open room, and instantly, the entire space felt different—bigger, more inspiring.

Sometimes, the answer isn’t adding or removing—it’s rearranging. Are your priorities aligned? Are you spending your best energy on what truly matters—or giving your prime time to everything and everyone else?

Step 3: Release What Doesn’t Serve You

As I cleared out my office, I found stuff I hadn’t touched in years. Why was I holding onto it? We do the same thing with our thoughts—reliving old failures or clinging to past wins that no longer define us.

You can’t move forward if you’re dragging outdated stories with you. Release the memories, regrets, or what-ifs that aren’t serving your future.

Step 4: Change Your View

Sometimes, progress is as simple as changing how you look at things. When I flipped my desk, my familiar office felt brand new. Life is like that. When you’re stuck, try looking at your problems from a different angle.

Staring at a metaphorical wall? Turn around. There’s a whole room of possibilities waiting for you.

Action Steps:

  • Clear one physical space this week—your desk, closet, or even just your car.
  • Identify one outdated belief or negative thought you can let go of.
  • Rearrange your schedule or environment to prioritize what matters most.
