Race 4 Dreams—
So my brother has started triathlon training and he is 2 weeks in now. If there is one thing my family hates is running long distance. So my sister who can run marathons at will, has inspired us to try and defeat what is the hardest for us to do. You can follow my brothers journey at baylorbarbee.com. I started Day 1 of my training officially today. We hold each other accountable by pictures after a completed work out. The hardest part about working out is motivation, but the sad thing is people fail to realize how blessed they are for that ability. August 9, 2010 I tore my Achilles Tendon completely, it ended my football career. And ever since having to retrain my right leg how to walk properly and rehabbing until I couldn’t continue, I promised my self I would never take walking for granted again.
Now I’m not a little guy, 6’ 2”. 305 pounds, and let’s face it. I no longer will be stopping the run on 4th and Goal anymore. I am getting married to the love of my life on 4/21/12. And what a better way to start a healthy marriage than with a healthy body. I want to be healthy, I don’t want to look back in 15 years and say I wish I would have done more. I have tried every diet, every pill, nothing works. My weight fluctuates like the weather in Lubbock, one day its up, next its down. It is frustrating to say the least, but with this blog I hope that you see that if I can do it, so can you. Michael Irvin once said, “you eat for performance, not pleasure” I think about how easy it is to avoid eating fries and grab an apple and the changes that can occur from then on.
I run for my fiancé, Brandi. I run for my mom. I run for my sister. I run for my brother. I run for my dad. I run for life. I run for you, to show you that you can do it to. It wont be easy, but it is life changing so why not take that first step now?
Today I began my workout with an upper body lift giving to me by my old strength coaches at Tech. After that I hit the speed bike for 2 quick miles to warm up for my run. The 10k training I am on calls for intervals. Today I had a 2:10 minute run, followed by a 2:50 walk—12 times. It was not easy but I pushed through and finished the day with 10 minutes in the cold tub at 40 degrees. I also will strive to drink 2 gallons of water a day to give my body the proper amount of water it needs for such activity. Hold your self accountable, and Race 4 Dreams.
